The University of Technology Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH)

The University of Technology Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH) and the Northern Institute of Technology Management

scholarship offer :

Linked to leading industry, the NIT offers scholarships for highly motivated and outstanding individuals. When you apply to the NIT you will automatically be considered for a scholarship. In the past, nearly all NIT students received a scholarship.

Some of the industry specific scholarships are listed below. When applying, please indicate in your Statement of Purpose, as described in the admission procedure, which scholarship you would like to be considered for. Scholarships are granted by global companies such as "Airbus","DaimlerChrysler", "NXP", Siemens" and "ThyssenKrupp" and by small and medium enterprises, the so called "Mittelstand". These "SMEs", many of them in the globalization phase, are the backbone of German industry. Please be sure to check their scholarship offers carefully, too. For information about scholarships on offer only contact NIT and not the sponsoring companies directly except you are already currently employed at the company (Siemens for example). Selection is handled by TUHH and NIT alone.

An NIT scholarship (13,000.- EURO per year) covers all tuition for the Global Engineering Program, but not accommodation.

Additional scholarships (3,000.- EURO per year) cover the cost of campus accommodation and are available through the NIT for at least 50 % of the students.

For further scholarships to cover personal living and accommodation expenses you may also contact directly the local office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German embassy, and the Goethe-Institut in your country or other German fund institutions. Due to application deadlines you must apply for these full scholarships at least already one year in advance.

Due to the availability of other public and private funding the NIT expects to be able to offer in 2007 again a strictly limited number of full scholarships (tuition, accommodation and living expenses) to outstanding students.

Student Loans

Students admitted to a course may also apply for a student bank loan (up to 400 EURO per month) through the NIT to cover the costs of accommodation or living. The rate of interest (8 % p.a.) charged on the loan is lower than general market rates of interest on loans to individuals in Germany. Repayment can commence up to 6 months after the end of the NIT Professional Program. For further information please contact c.dethloff@nithh.de

Statement of Purpose

A detailed (one- to two-page) statement of purpose must accompany the application. The statement should include the applicant’s reasons for undertaking graduate work in the chosen engineering field, and an explanation of the applicant’s interest in the management, law, language and humanities program at the NIT. It should describe how the planned graduate work relates to the applicant’s undergraduate study and professional goals.

All NIT applicants are automatically considered for scholarships (26,000 EURO for tuition during the two-year program). Please specify in your statement of purpose which scholarship offers you would like to be considered for. You may apply for more than one scholarship offer. Please note, however, that you should state reasons why you are interested in the sponsoring companies. Do not contact the companies directly.

Please also specify whether you will need an additional stipend (perhaps on a loan basis) to cover accommodation and/or personal living expenses.
