The MIT Portugal Program announces its call for applications for the 2009-10 academic year. Each program is offered in association by a consortium of Portuguese universities, with the participation of MIT (US) faculty.

The Leaders for Technical Industries program will train a new generation of leaders for companies with a technological profile, and enable a new European paradigm in managing product development and production systems. Students participating in this program will have the ability to foster the innovative application of new knowledge in successful products and/or processes. LTI includes classroom curriculum, industrial internships, time at MIT, and a doctoral thesis. Students will have the opportunity to participate in applied research projects developed under the frame of the EDAM agenda in cooperation with MIT Portugal’s Industrial Affiliates program.

Degree in one of the following areas: mechanical, electronical, industrial, chemical or materials/polymers engineering or mathematics or physics (considered upon curricular analysis).

Postdoctoral Fellowships in in Economics and Management

Portugal: Postdoctoral Fellowships in in Economics and Management, the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)

CEFAGE-UE offers two research positions in Economics and Management, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Successful candidates will integrate one of the following CEFAGE-UE’s research groups:
- Econometrics and Finance
- Industrial, Labour and Spatial Economics
- Management.

The hired researchers would join CEFAGE-UE’s ongoing research projects and are expected to develop independent research aimed at publication in leading international scientific journals. The contract offered will have the duration of up to 5 years, renewed yearly based on mutual agreement and subject to FCT approval. The annual income, before taxes, will be around 43,500 Euro.

Portugal: Postdoc Fellowship on Motion Analysis in Biomedical Engineering, University of Porto

Post-doc Fellowship on Motion Analysis in Biomedical Engineering

We are looking for a post-doctoral computer vision researcher, particularly in the area of Motion Analysis in Biomedical Engineering.

The project’s goal is the development of Image Processing and Computer Vision tools for analysis and tracking of human motion. The work will be developed in the Biomedical Imaging and Computer Vision group of the Biomedical Signal and Image division of INEB.

The work program of the successful candidate will include:

• Software development for image sequence acquisition and storage in a portable system.
• Create an environment for human motion analysis, including
  • 3D motion analysis and 3D tracking
  • Models for human pose and motion
  • Activity monitoring

Requirements

• PhD degree on Electrical and Computer Engineering, Informatics, Computer Science or similar fields.
• Advanced experience in development image processing software, particularly in motion analysis.
• Good record of publications in international journals.
• Very good knowledge of English is essential.
